Crisis Intervention Training

The Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Training gives law enforcement officers and first responders the advanced knowledge and skills they need to help in crisis situations involving individuals with mental illness, substance abuse or developmental disabilities. Crisis Intervention Teams are crucial to reduce arrest numbers, connect people with important health services, and help prevent injuries to all involved in the situation—the officers, first responders and individuals in crisis.

The first Crisis Intervention Team training was established in Memphis in 1988. Since then, over 2,000 communities in 40 states have adopted the Memphis Model. Vaya Health, along with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and its community partners, operates a robust CIT program; Vaya Health has trained over 725 officers and first responders in CIT throughout Western North Carolina.
