SUMMARY:How Being Trauma-Informed Improves Criminal Justice System Responses
DESCRIPTION:SAMHSA’s GAINS Center for Behavioral Health and Justice Transformation\, operated by Policy ResearchAssociates\, Inc. (PRA)\, is known nationally for its work in regard to people with behavioral health needs involved inthe criminal justice system. \n\n\n\nAlthough prevalence estimates vary\, there is consensus that high percentages of justice-involved women and men have experienced serious trauma throughout their lifetime. The reverberating effects of trauma experiences can challenge a person’s capacity for recovery and pose significant barriers to accessing services\, often resulting in an increased risk of coming into contact with the criminal justice system. \n\n\n\n\n\nTraining Objectives\n\n\n\n\nIncrease understanding of trauma\n\n\n\nCreate an awareness of the impact of trauma on behavior\n\n\n\nDevelop trauma-informed responses\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAudience\n\n\n\nThis highly interactive training is specifically tailored to community-based criminal justice professionals and those who work with justice-involved individuals including: \n\n\n\n\nLaw Enforcement\, EMS\, and Fire\n\n\n\nCommunity Corrections\n\n\n\nCourt personnel\n\n\n\nPeer Support Specialists\n\n\n\nMedical and human service providers\n\n\n\n\nFeel free to bring your own drinks and light snacks. \n\n\n\nComplete one registration form per person.
