Vaya Health Celebrates 2023 Impact, Enters New Year with Renewed Commitment to Health & Wellness

As we stride deeper into 2024, Vaya continues to celebrate the profound impact and progress in communities throughout its service region. The past year was one focused on growth, innovation, and continued commitment to advancing behavioral health care and wellness across the state of North Carolina.

Throughout 2023, Vaya was at the forefront of fostering positive change throughout its region, which encompasses 32 counties across the state – ensuring that health plan members and others in the community have the resources and tools essential to thrive. From NARCAN distribution to leading community-based training initiatives, here’s a glimpse into how Vaya was working on with North Carolina communities:

Ensuring NARCAN is Accessible across N.C.: With reports showing an alarming increase in opioid-related deaths, Vaya worked to distribute over 1,800 cases of NARCAN to local agencies across the state – while also working to provide hope and additional support resources to those battling addiction.

Supporting N.C.’s Youth & Families: In early 2024 Vaya launched its Adventure Awaits campaign, a first-of-its-kind recruitment initiative focused on addressing the critical shortage of foster care parents. The campaign, which is ongoing, is deeply rooted in Vaya’s commitment to ensuring youth in foster care receive the support and care they need to thrive.

Providing Communities with Suicide Prevention Resources: Thanks to the support of many local organizations, Vaya helped facilitate vital training opportunities such as the Mental Health First Aid training and Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) courses. Vaya’s dedication led to 385 individuals being trained in QPR alone – leaving individuals and communities empowered to intervene and prevent tragedies.

Now in 2024, Vaya is poised to deepen its impact and embrace new avenues and opportunities for community and member support. With Rockingham County joining the Vaya community on Feb. 1, Vaya renewed its commitment to expand outreach efforts and grow support to individuals with substance use needs, behavioral health concerns, traumatic brain injuries, and intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).

With the launch of Vaya Total Care and the Healthy Opportunities Pilot close, Vaya looks forward to further embracing a whole-person care approach – striving for a brighter, healthier future for all.
