START National Training Institute

START (Systemic, Therapeutic, Assessment, Resources, and Treatment) is a national model that aims to improve the lives of individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities and mental health needs. They provide community-based crisis intervention and prevention services for individuals and families with a uniquely positive person-centered approach that focuses on identifying strengths, connecting systems, and improving service outcomes. The START program in North Carolina is one of their oldest and most established programs and is typically well represented at the institute.
For this event, the START National Training Institute will bring together approximately 300 health care professionals from across the country, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, mental health counselors, care coordinators, medical doctors, nurses, and academic researchers, as well as individuals and families with lived experiences with disability and mental health.
