Youth Mental Health Photovoice Exhibit – Buncombe County

September 14, 2023 @ 5:30 pm 7:00 pm

Join us for the grand reveal of NC Healthy Transitions’ Photovoice Exhibit, a project where youth used their photo-taking skills to capture what mental health means to them. The event is on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at 40 Coxe Avenue in the lobby of the local Health Department from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. There will be a brief presentation at 6 p.m., but folks are welcome to drop in as they are able to visit. There will be local organizations with youth-focused programs available to share their resources and provide some light snacks. Parking will be validated for the parking deck.

This is a great opportunity for the community to come together and support youth mental health through this youth-created exhibit. Feel free to share this event on your social media pages (Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/1432732450844174)

About the Photovoice Exhibit:

“Young people emerging into adulthood face multiple challenges on their journey. Mental health can often influence the trajectory of this transition into adulthood, though many youth struggle to know how and where to find support. To better understand the needs of youth and young adults North Carolina DHHS has implemented a SAMHSA-funded project in Buncombe and Henderson Counties called NC Healthy Transitions (https://nchealthytransitions.org/). To engage youth and young adults in these communities we have asked them to take pictures of what mental health means in their lives and then attend a focus group to relate their experiences.”
