Supporting children with complex needs can be complex indeed. According to NCDHHS, children with complex needs are ages 5-20, with a developmental and/or intellectual disability and a mental health disorder diagnosis, who are Medicaid eligible and at risk of not being able to return to or maintain placement in a community setting.
No two families with complex needs are the same, but most experience overlapping problems spanning social, economic, and health domains. Vaya Health understands that even the most seasoned Care Managers can feel challenged when supporting children in families with complex needs, especially when children’s welfare is at stake.
To meet this community need, Vaya trained 21 behavioral health specialists and providers through monthly sessions, supporting them to attain the National Association of Dual Diagnosis (NADD) certification.
Designed to help care managers, specialists, and providers meet the unique needs of children with complex needs, Vaya developed this educational cohort to help Care Mangers and other behavioral health specialists tackle often-compounded issues, including mental health difficulties, physical health problems, and intellectual/developmental disabilities. Vaya held a virtual graduation ceremony on Oct. 15 for those who completed the Children with Complex Needs Workforce Development Cohort.
With the completion of the first generation of the Children with Complex Needs Workforce Development Cohort, Vaya managers look forward to better serving this specific population.
